Horde Chess
One army of pawns against a real one
Black plays normal chess. White plays thirty-six pawns. Both sides are far more awkward to handle than they look.
How it plays
- 1
White fields a wall of pawns and no other pieces.
- 2
Black plays a standard army.
- 3
White wins by checkmating Black.
- 4
Black wins by capturing every last pawn.
What the lights do
The horde glows as a single mass so you can read the front line at a glance.
What you need
- One board
- Extra pawns

The rules and the install path are designed and wired up, but the sketch hasn’t been written yet. Everything on this page is real except the binaries themselves.
